Stripe

Stripe is the default and the most flexible: a payment service provider on its own, or a merchant of record with Managed Payments enabled.

A restricted API key is recommended over a full secret key. It needs write on Webhook Endpoints (so PackEdge can create the webhook for you), write on Checkout Sessions, write on Products and Prices, and read on Customers, Subscriptions and Payment Intents.

Webhook

PackEdge creates the endpoint and stores the signing secret automatically when you connect over HTTPS, subscribing exactly the events it handles:

• checkout.session.completed
• customer.subscription.created
• customer.subscription.updated
• customer.subscription.deleted

If your key lacks webhook write access, or you're on localhost, add it yourself in Stripe → Developers → Webhooks and paste the whsec_… secret into the console. Add the same URL in both live and test, and paste each secret into its matching mode.

Managed Payments

Stripe's own merchant-of-record product. Toggle Sell as merchant of record and Stripe handles indirect tax in 80+ countries, fraud prevention, disputes and transaction-level buyer support.

Two things must be true first:

1. Activate Managed Payments and accept its terms at dashboard.stripe.com/settings/managed-payments. The API rejects the request until you do.
2. Your products need an eligible tax code. Stripe labels these Eligible for Managed Payments in the dashboard. Set one in the connect form and PackEdge applies it to every product it creates and updates. Leave it blank and Stripe applies your account default.

Coverage is still expanding

Managed Payments supports sellers in a limited set of countries and is rolling out gradually. Check eligibility before switching a live product over.

Enabling it after you already have plans is fine — the tax code is applied to existing products on the next sync, not only to new ones.

Plans

Automatic. PackEdge creates a Stripe product per plan and a price under it. Stripe prices are immutable, so changing a plan's price mints a new price, points the product's default at it, and archives the old one.

Test mode

Use an sk_test_… key. Card 4242 4242 4242 4242, any future expiry, any CVC.

With Managed Payments on, enter billing addresses in different countries at checkout to watch the tax change — that's the visible proof MoR mode is active.
