Dodo Payments

Dodo Payments is a merchant of record with unusually broad payout coverage outside the US and EU — worth considering if you or your buyers are in South Asia, MENA or Southeast Asia.

Test and live keys are separate and only work against their own environment.

Webhook

Add it in Dodo → Developer → Webhooks, pointing at the URL shown in the console, and paste the whsec_… secret back.

Subscribe: payment.succeeded, subscription.active, subscription.renewed, subscription.cancelled, subscription.expired, refund.succeeded.

Dodo follows the Standard Webhooks specification, as Polar does, so the same verification handles both.

Local development

Dodo ships a CLI that forwards test webhooks to localhost — dodo wh listen — which saves setting up a tunnel for webhooks specifically. You'll still want one so your post-payment redirect resolves.

Plans

Automatic. Dodo products are updated in place, including the price, so a price change doesn't create a replacement product.

Products are created with the saas tax category. If you sell something Dodo classifies differently — an e-book, for instance — adjust it in their dashboard after the first sync.

Test mode

Switch to Test Mode in the Dodo dashboard and use a test key. Live mode requires identity and business verification; test mode does not, so you can evaluate the whole flow before committing.

Test mode sends no emails from Dodo

Dodo suppresses its own transactional emails in test mode, and processes no real payments. PackEdge still sends its own receipt with the license key, so verify that from the email log in the console rather than expecting Dodo's.
